Commencement

by Daniel

Commencement has commenced. Congratulations to all of you masters and mistresses. I am quite proud of everyone. The commencement ceremony was great (and touching). Central Lutheran Church is very beautiful. Everyone who participated did a wonderful job—so I thank you for making this time special. I rarely show any outward emotion when I’m in public, but I have to admit that emotion was roused in me for a moment. Why? Well, my mother always gets teary eyed—which makes it almost impossible for me to keep my defenses up. I also must admit that I had a distinct sense of pride as I left the church to be congratulated by my beloved bible division faculty. What a proud moment. I enjoyed watching the hooding (the best part) of the graduates because it showcased each and every one of Luther’s graduates. Here’s a picture of me rocking my hood. While you’re at it you can take a gander at my trademark theological bald spot. Good stuff.

The only thing that I am bummed about is that we didn’t get to keep our hoods. They’re pretty cool. I guess it makes sense: the registrar’s office informed me that they are a little less than three hundred dollars apiece. Yikes. I’ll wait till next time. I’ve got one degree down and two more to go! Thank you for supporting our graduates. For those of you who will not be returning to Luther – I bid you adieu. I’ll be around for a bit. For now…it’s time to relax, right? Enjoy the beautiful Memorial Day weather. I’m off to grill some not-so-kosher pork ribs. There’s even a little cartoon pig with devil horns on the barbecue sauce bottle using.
