Seminary Softball - An Annual Tradition
by Nina
Last week the seminary community gathered for its annual Faculty/Staff versus student softball game. It was a warm, though windy day for the "athletic" competition. Both the student and faculty/staff teams had many competitors and spectators. Unfortunately, I must point out that both sides were predominantly men.
The game was not really a pitching match. There were many hits and lots of opportunities to run bases. It was very high scoring, which pleased the many gathered to watch, eat hot dogs, laugh, and get some sun on their pale, library-acclimatized faces.
The Faculty/Staff ended up winning the match, I believe 22-19. It was around that score and within just a couple of runs. This may surprise you, well the photo of Patricia Lull, Dean of Students, handing umpire Fred Gaiser a wad of cash will help you understand how that happened!
Though I don't think there was any official tabulating. I would suggest the game's MVP was John Kilbride. Most surprising performance goes to the new Assistant Professor of Congregation and Community Care: Dr. Theresa Latini.
I guess, reluctant congratulations are in order for the faculty/staff team. This may be the first time they've ever won!...even if they did buy the win.
Thanks to Judy Hedman for sharing these photos with me!
