Introduction & Arrival

by Tim K. Snyder

Hi. I'm Tim. I'm glad we've met.

I'm new to the Life @ Luther blogging team (obviously) and I'll be focusing on my life as a Distributed Learner (DL). I began studies at Luther this past fall taking Greek and I'm now part of the second cohort of M.Div. (DL) students. DL cohorts take classes both online and in residence through intensives. For the next two weeks I'm here on campus taking two courses and meeting the other members face-to-face for the first time. So far here's a few reflections & highlights...

Getting picked up by the Mary Hinkle Shore Limo Service. Sweet.

Last night we gathered together with almost 100 DL students between the MA and MDiv programs - we're representing 10% of the student body. dang.

I'll never forget meeting everyone for the first time after only "knowing" the other cohort members by thumbnail pic and their voices for the past semester.

Today we had our first day of classes. I now understand the word "intensive"...eight hours of classes followed by 4 hours of homework. Right. Now I understand...

Thank-you to Patricia Lull for turning down the weather below zero so this Texan gets the full tundra experience. Deans of Students apparently can do that in the best interest of the student (or so she says...).

Tim,
so looking forward to read your posts. Good luck with the cold and massive work. I'm boycotting J-Term and this January in Minnesota. It's tough, but someone has to visit Hawaii in the winter.
