San Xavier Mission

by Chase

I visited this 300 year old mission with several members of the congregation. It was started by Jesuit missionaries and eventually they were replaced by the Benedictines; black robes to gray. Over the years Arizona has been part of Spain, Mexico, and the United States. And, throughout that history, and the thousands of preceding years, it has been the home of people we now call Native Americans. This mission was established before reservations were established, but it now stands on one of more than 20 reservations in Arizona. There is worship every day, including Sunday and there is a school as well.
