It's back!

by Margaret Obaga

The community garden is back again this year (no pictures with this blog, hopefully in the next blog on the garden). The enthusiasm for gardening seems to be higher than last year. Or perhaps it is the dynamics of the on going economic situation that has prompted such response. On the other hand, the size of the garden is rather small to account for any major change in the gardeners' economic situation. Whatever the case the demand for the gardens was rather high this year that some missed out on this precious commodity. Families and those without them are presently touching the dirt in order to plant and tend the precious plants. Receiving this love are, tomatoes, collard greens, peppers, carrots, spinach, beans, zuchinni, squash, onions, and others. These days, our afternoons are filled with anticipation as we impatiently wait for the "gathering" time. Five o'clock then is our gathering time, when from "every corner" nations of the world unite for a common purpose, to tend the communal garden. In this garden, people easily talk to one another. They exchange genuine smiles. Here people become open to one another and exchange information freely. Often it is a great joy to help out with a neighbor's garden, incase of they are absent. It is the right thing to do. The spirit "of" the garden has caught us again. I think it should survive the summer and brave on to the winter, and Spring to the next Summer. Oh, what a wish, and a wish it shall remain!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
