Online Classes

by Margaret Obaga

I was thrilled to meet a new J-Term student I have been working with in an online class. She visited my church and even knelt next to me during the holy communion. Before then she had wondered if it was I she had worked with in the Pastoral care class. You see, our photos are posted online to help student and teacher to put face on the name. As a teaching assistant I get to meet students face to face at school and online ones just online. So, when the celebrant called out my name and said "the body of Christ broken for you," Barb knew that it was really I. After the worship service, we met and chatted as old friends do. Later in the week we shared a meal together and got to know each other even better. We shared family and school information and much interest was expressed in doing some cross-cultural visits, an event I very much look forward to. Online classes at Luther have become bridges for connecting students and teachers, students and students for ministry. They are a great resource to one and all, to those that are near and those that are far. This is especially the case for those already in ministry, or working elsewhere but wish to pursue education at their convenience. Online classes make learning accessible and convenient.
