Teaching Parish

by Chase

Many of us have already seen the email updating us and inviting us to join the conversation about teaching parish. From a student perspective teaching parish is a controversial part of our education at Luther Seminary. Some might say, "Spending time in a congregation, in a community, and working in a mentorship relationship is not controversial Chase." I would have to agree, because when someone ends a sentence with your name they are usually right. It has only been controversial because in the past the goals and methods of achieving those goals have seemed unclear.

Yes, a mentor is valuable and much desired! Yes, time spent in worship with a congregation is necessary! But, how do we all get the most out of that experience without burdening, confusing, and obscuring the individuals and the intentions that are involved? Luckily, we have the type of leaders at Luther Seminary that will take their time and challenge us to take our time considering how teaching parish can work best for students, the congregations, and the church as a whole.

If you want to engage in this active conversation click here to investigate.
