Another SCUPE please

by Chase

I know my last post appeared to be my final SCUPE post because I used images of sunsets, but it wasn't. Earlier today I was thinking about where the church is at in history and how there are so many factors that contribute to the present context. Technology, music, art, education, theology, and even some philosophy impact our lives and our thinking about God's promises and his creation.

One of the pastors whom we visited through the Seminary Consortium for Urban Pastoral Education (SCUPE) spoke words to the truth I have been feeling: in these days we are seeing, for the first time in American history, major sections of society developing totally outside the church walls and the bounds of Christian community. His example was rap music. I might add public education, art, and the computer hardware and software industries. None of these industries are rooted in the life, work, and ministry of the church. I think there has been some breakdown in all of these industries because of their distance from the church.

What do you think?
